FanExpo Toronto 2015

Little did I know that my first couple of weeks in Canada would be full of so many new experiences and exciting events- Up to 1 week before the FanExpo in Toronto, I had no idea I would be going to the event and would be meeting some of my favorite actors. We found out about the Convention 5 days before the event, and after exploring the website, and seeing who would be attending, we decided to purchase tickets for the Sunday.
Our day started off pretty badly : we arrived early to take our bus to Toronto which would arrive just in time for us to walk around the convention before our 1st photo-op. Of course, as soon as we arrived in Toronto we were held up in traffic for an hour and a half, forcing us to sprint around Toronto for a good 15 mins (in my new shoes, which left me limping the entire day), arriving just in time at the location to have our picture taken with one of our favorite actresses.
The Convention took place at the Metro Convention Centre, right in the heart of Toronto. I've said this before in our post about Chicon (Supernatural Convention, you can read about it here), but I have to say, conventions are so. much. fun.

On our way to Toronto I literally had butterflies in my chest and stomach, I could not sit still, my heart was racing, I didn't have the time to prepare myself for the event, with led to me freaking out the entire way there. So many people cosplayed, there were hundreds of stalls which sold all kinds of merchandise, everyone was just genuinely happy to be attending, the whole atmosphere is always ecstatic... I can't express my love and admiration for conventions enough. & it attracts all age groups, we saw kids, teenagers, young couples, older couples, families, some people were even on their own, but it's a such great opportunity to meet new people. You're all passionate about the same things, and there's no judgement, only positive energy and support. It takes alot to be so open about your passions and love for something, alot of people get judged and laughed at for it- but conventions are a safe place where everyone is just happy and excited.

FanExpo Photo-Ops

Photo-ops give you the opportunity to have your picture taken with one of the guests. You can purchase them online or on site (if any remain), and you are given a time for which you have to make your way to the photo-ops area.
Photo-ops are so so much fun, but I can guarantee that you will not have time to have an extended conversation with the guests. I think my biggest regret at FanExpo is not being able to speak a word to Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter, MCU), because the photo was over so fast (approximately 3-5 seconds) and I was being ushered out of the way for the next person. This makes sense, when you take into account that hundreds of people are in the same position as you and it's simply not fair to have more time than someone else. I had so much I wanted to tell her, I really wish I was able to have an autograph session, but it didn't work out. In the little amount of time we had with her she was super sweet and polite, I'm not sure I would've been able to say anything in that moment even if I did have the chance!
However, some photo-ops are longer than others, you can share a few words with some of them, it's just always different! (Hayley was the only guest who we didn't speak much with)

Summer & I managed to have a short exchange with Tyler Hoechlin (teen wolf), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Norman Reedus (Daryl - The Walking Dead) (Yes. He reduced me to tears.) I can honestly say that I love and respect all these actors so so much, I still can't wrap my head around the fact that this all actually happened and we talked with them. It was Rupert Grint's 1st ever convention and photo-op experience too, he was so nice and he seemed really comfortable and seemed to be enjoying himself! He was so nice ah. As a massive Harry Potter fan it was one hell of a moment for me.

You can purchase autographs too, which is much more personal and gives you more time with the guests and gives you the opportunity to have a short conversation with them. Summer & I met Tom Felton and had a nice conversation with him whilst he signed our stuff. (he is so sweet guys).

Here are our photo-ops, (we literally still cannot believe that any of this happened). Summer is on the left, me on the right!

Hayley Atwell, Agent Carter/Marvel

Tyler Hoechlin - Teen Wolf

Rupert Grint - Ron Weasley

Norman Reedus - The Walking Dead

I wish there was an earlier bus to Toronto, because we arrived so late we weren't able to explore all the different stalls and merchandise,  & some of it was breath-taking. I wish the photo-ops were better organized too- Sadly, we weren't able to attend any of the panels because we were queuing for them for so long. I have to say though, I still really really enjoyed the Convention, the staff were all very friendly and answered all the questions, and all the guests were so nice and polite, I have such great memories of this day!

Alot of people don't realize how many Conventions happen all year round in various locations, there are so many in not only the US or Canada but also Europe. The best advice I can give is that you should keep an eye out for them, do your research, and remember you're paying for amazing memories with amazing people, the same amount you would pay for a concert, or a sports game. IT'S SO WORTH IT GUYS. Just make sure you consider that photo-ops can be very quick, so if you have alot you want to share buy an autograph instead!

Best way to end the day : dinner at Denny's.
Hope you're all having a great week!
