Summer & I recently visited the UK for a week, spending 3 full days in London. We love visiting museums, so our first day was spent wandering around the Tate Modern and the V&A with our friend Amanda. Definitely on the list of top places to visit in London!
It was our first visit to the Tate Modern. Located right in the heart of London, the museum was by far one of the most intriguing places I've ever been to. Art is always an interesting topic- one I've had the chance to study in depth. I couldn't help but wonder, what inspired these artists to create these pieces? What do they wish to say, if they want to say anything at all? I must admit, many of the exhibitions left me a little clueless. I didn't understand them, I didn't know how I should feel, what I should look at, what questions to ask myself. But, I guess that is the whole point. Looking back, I remember how many of the exhibitions reminded me of memories or places, mostly fictional places. places described in books that I've shaped in my imagination. All in all, I genuinely enjoyed walking among the exhibits and just accepting what was in front of me.
After the Tate Modern, we quickly made our way to Summer & I's favorite museum, the V&A. There is so, so much to see here: fashion from all over the world, sculptures, ancient weapons, objects of great importance, paintings, books, various pieces of art, intricate locks and keys... There is an astounding variety of things to see from all over the world. Not only are the exhibits beautiful to look at, but the museum itself is a work of art. With big arches, tiled floors, natural light flooding the giant rooms and hallways and a smart layout, you can wander around the museum for hours, never once seeing the same thing twice. On top of all that, the museum is constructed in a way that you never feel overwhelmed by all the information. There are so many areas with benches and seats, which allow you to admire everything in your own time. One of the most breathtaking things I've seen there is the giant room with a number of Raphael's paintings. There are still so many things I haven't had the chance to see yet, I can't wait to go back!
