Hair Inspiration : braids

Marchesa Fall 2014
Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.

Hello everyone!

I thought I'd do something a little different today, I've decided to make a post featuring some of my favorite hairstyles with braids/plaits. These hairstyles consist of all different kind of braids: french braids, dutch braids, fishtail, twists and twirls. This look has rised in popularity over the past few months, with the way characters style their hair in films/tv shows : it began with Daenerys Targaryen's platinum silver hair, with a different style of braids in every other episode of Game Of Thrones. Then came Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games films, and perhaps more recently the tv show Vikings.
This is a perfect example of how films/tv shows can influence us. Our looks are definitely influenced by our favorite fictional characters (books and tv alike!). But this look isn't only popular on screen, it's also on the runway, with brands such as Dolce and Gabbana (see their S/S 2014 looks here) : the models wore their hair in beautiful braided up-do's, decorated with pearls, flowers, and even coins. Such looks were also seen in the Alexander McQueen AW14 show, where models have cornrows that spiraled around in a circle, and in Marchesa Fall 2014 which also had cornrow braids which were created to "contrast the sophisticated look of the clothes".  I think it's a great edgy look that adds a lot to a sophisticated, glamorous look. & it also looks great at the beach! It's also a great way to show off your facial features.

Celebrities have also followed the trend, with amazing actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne, Natalie Dormer sporting the look, and looking a m a z i n g.
Here are some pictures, enjoy! x
